McDonald’s Thunder Preview Party 4/7/11
The Kentucky Derby Festival is pleased to announce that McDonald’s Restaurants of Kentuckiana will once again be title sponsor of the Thunder Funder Program, which will help raise funds for the 2011Thunder Over Louisville show, the Derby Festival’s Opening Ceremonies on April 16. Ninety-seven area McDonald’s restaurants will donate a portion of their drink sales revenue to help support Thunder.
Thunder Over Louisville 4/15/11
Thunder Over Louisville is not only the official opening ceremonies for the two fun-filled weeks of the Kentucky Derby Festival, it is also the nation’s largest annual fireworks show. The Thunder Air Show dazzles the crowd with more than 100 planes, aerobatics teams, daring sky diving teams and breathtaking stunts.
The Fillies Children’s Tea with the Derby Festival Princesses 4/17/11
Children are encouraged to dress like a prince or princess for this social event with the members of the Derby Festival’s 2011 Royal Court.
U.S. Bank Great BalloonFest 4/28/11-4/30/11
Previously recognized by Louisville Magazine as Louisville’s “Best Event,” the 39th annual U.S. Bank Derby Festival Great Balloon Race and 19th annual U.S. Bank Derby Festival Great Balloon Glow will continue as two of the marquee events of the Derby Festival schedule, in addition to newer ballooning events such as the U.S. Bank Great Balloon Rush Hour Race, U.S. Bank Great Balloon Lift-off and U.S. Bank Great Balloon Tour.
Movie Night on the Great Lawn 4/29/11
Fans of the movie, Twilight, will want to bring their blankets and folding chairs to Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville on the Great Lawn at Waterfront on Friday, April 29, as the hit film will be shown on a 45-foot inflatable screen. The wildly popular vampire flick will be screened at 9:15 PM; admission is a 2011 Pegasus Pin.

The Derby Festival’s roundball activities kick off with Derby Festival Night of the Future Stars. The event is held every year on the night before the Derby Festival Basketball Classic.

Enjoy a family-friendly evening at the 25th Anniversary of the Ramble for the Roses! The Ramble mini-Festival offers a playground, cookout selection of food, drink and children’s games.
