29th Annual Bar-B-Q Festival Returns

photo pitt_zps7480838d.jpgOn Saturday, May 18, the aroma of smoking meats and burgoo will fill the air around Pitt Academy announcing the 29th Annual Bar-B-Q Pitt Festival. The award-winning food, outstanding blues music, children’s area and game booths provide something for everyone who enjoys great food and fun! The barbecue artisans from St. Pius X Catholic Church in Owensboro, Ky., will once again fire up their 120-foot-long open style pits with hickory and oak. Pork, mutton, and chicken are basted with the Cooking Team’s secret recipe and smoked overnight while 200 gallons of burgoo simmer all day until it all reaches the perfect stage for serving over 4000 meals. Festival hours are 4:00 – 11:00 pm (food is served until 8:00 pm).

“This is a wonderful family friendly event that includes something for everyone”, said board president, Steve DeGaris, “In addition to the mouth-watering food, there will be game booths, children’s activities, and a Blues Music Tent.” This year’s Blues Tent features the following bands: 5 – 7:15 pm – THE KING BEES, 7:45 – 10:00 pm – LITTLE T&A .

All proceeds directly benefit Pitt Academy, a 501 (C-3) non-profit school that provides an innovative learning environment in which children with a broad spectrum of learning and communication differences can reach their own academic, creative, and social potential. Pitt Academy serves children Kindergarten through 12th grades with disabilities such as Autism, Down syndrome, Intellectually Challanged, FMD, Developmentally Delayed, ADD/ADHD, Fragile X Syndrome and Speech/Language disorder.
