1. Enjoy the Nutcracker family storytime with the Louisville Ballet at several Louisville Free Public Library branches this month. A Louisville Ballet dancer will read the classic story, The Nutcracker, followed by Nutcracker inspired crafts and activities!

2. Free family activities every Saturday at Local Speed.

  • December 19 from 11:30 to 3:30- Finger Knitting
  • December 26 from 11:30 to 3:30- Beaded Jewelry for New Years
3. Walk the new downtown bridge on December 5 from 10 am to 2 pm! Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear will cut the ribbon at the open house style celebration before the public is invited to walk across the bridge. The first 10,000 people will receive a keepsake medallion. Bring your phone/camera because there will be selfie stations set up on the bridge.

4. December 5 from 12 to 3 pm is the 13th Annual Nature of Christmas in Goshen. The event is located at the Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve. There will be free food and hot chocolate, free crafts for kids, live music, a visit from Mr. & Mrs. Claus with gift bags, hayrides, and more. This is a free event, but donations are appreciated.

5. Families are invited to view and hear the narration of the Christmas story at A Night in Bethlehem on December 5 from 6-8 pm. It is a drive-thru live Nativity with over 100 live characters and animals! Plus, there will be free hot chocolate and cookies while supplies last. The event takes place at Shelbyville First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Kentucky.

6. Put those hammers to use as you help your child build something this month! You can register to build holiday stacking blocks at Home Depot on December 5 at 9 am or you can build a Christmas Train at Lowe’s Build and Grow on December 12 at 10 am.

7. Help light up the city of Jeffersontown December 5 from 6 to 8 pm at the Jefferson Community Center. There will be live performances from local choral groups, refreshments, crafts, carriage rides, and pictures with Mr. & Mrs. Claus! All for free!

8. Enjoy a free yoga class at Keneseth Isreal on December 6 from 3 to 4:30 pm. No yoga experience is needed! Just bring a towel and mat!

9. Head over the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center for the Christmas Gift and Décor Show December 11, 12, and 13. Admission is FREE!

10. Enjoy free family fun at the Carnegie Center for Art & History in New Albany on December 12 from 10 am – Noon. Kids ages 2-12 are invited to their family fun workshop to make finger knit scarves. The class is free, but registration is appreciated (812-944-7336).
