Review of Open Gym at Kentucky Gymnastics Academy (KGA) By: Stephanie

This morning, Maggie and I went for a fun hour of play at Kentucky Gymnastics Academy, better known as KGA.  KGA is located in the Eastpoint business area on Stanley Gault Parkway which is very easy to access from the Old Henry exit off of the Gene Snyder.  It was $5 for Maggie (and I) to play during this pre school open play since parents are free.  They also have an option of buying a punch card for 5 visits for a total of $20.  It is geared toward children ages 1-5.

Maggie ran full speed ahead once she got her jacket and shoes off. The first activity we enjoyed together was the running length trampoline.  Maggie also loved climbing the latter up to the foam pit and playing although she did not want to swing from the “vine.” Many of the other kids were really having fun with that and were kept safe by the KGA facilitator named Barabara.

Maggie and I explored everything from the climbing wall, rings, balance beams and spent a lot of time playing on the large soft mat area full of balls, a riding ramp car, a basketball hoop and other age appropriate toys.

At the end of the open gym time, Barbara hands out little bean bags and sings a special song with the kids.  They sit down and get s stamp for doing a great job!  It is a nice way to end the session since it signals to the kids that it is time to leave and helps stop those “I DON’T WANT TO GO!!” melt downs (although my daughter did still have a mild breakdown since she wanted to stay!)

If you are running errands with your child, this is a great way to break up the morning and let them get some energy out.  It is late enough to get things done in the morning but early enough to be home in time for lunch.  It is a simple outlet for their boundless energy and as an extra bonus, parents can have fun playing just like I did!

Their open play schedule is as follows and listed on our calendar at the top of our site:
Monday  9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Tuesday  10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Wednesday 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Friday 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m and 10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

They also offer gymnastics classes for kids of all ages and birthday parties! And if you are looking for a few free hours, they have a Drop & Shop program that’s $7/hr.
