Review of Free Soccer Clinics at Grace Evangelical Free Church By: Stephanie
The Grace Evangelical Free Church on Factory Lane in Louisville offers a great FREE outreach program for kids. On Tuesday nights (during spring and fall, check with them for the schedule) the have an informal soccer clinic for kids ages 4-10. Last week, I took my son to play!
When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and invited to play. As recommended, we brought our own ball and ran out onto the open field to kick the ball around. The clinics start at 6pm on Tuesdays and the clinic leader and Associate Pastor, Darin Anderson, gathered the kids to do some warm ups. For about 10 minutes, he and other volunteers guided the kids through some drills to learn simple soccer skills and warm up.
After the warm ups, they split the kids by age and the older kids went off with a volunteer and the younger kids stayed by the mini-nets they set up for some games. I watched on as the brought the kids together to introduce themselves and then they played fun games like chasing the coach and trying to kick the ball at him or sharks and minnows. My son had a lot of fun since the volunteer coaches were very engaging and outgoing.
The had a short half-time at about 6:45pm where they had water for the kids and sat them down to hand out lolli pops and do a short kid-friendly bible lesson and prayer. After the break, the kids went back to the field for some scrimmages.
It is a really great outreach program and great affordable(FREE!) option for parents to introduce their children to soccer and get outside to play and exercise.
