Douglass Hills Kids TRY-athalon
Recently, I spoke with Nikki Weis after learning about the Douglass Hills Kids TRY-athalon via their Facebook page. There are a lot of events and programs for families and I can’t post them all but I really wanted to learn about this event since it sounded like something I used to do when I was a child. And, I thought I could help spread the word since I thought it was a truly fabuLOUs idea. Getting kids active in a fun event is simply great!
Nikki told me:
After my husband completed his first Ironman 2 years ago and me completing my first Olympic Triathlon our two oldest boys wanted to give it a try. Last year they participated in the Tom Sawyer Kids for Kids Triathlon and loved it. My oldest son asked if he could do more but there just weren’t that many available for children. So he said “Mom just put one on”. So here we are 9 months later organizing an amazing Kids Triathlon.
The Douglass Hills Kids TRY-athlon will take place on July 29th in Middletown. Kid’s Triathlon’s provide the perfect launching pad for kids to break into the sport of Triathlon and to get out and have some fun.
The swim will take place in the Douglass Hills Swimming Pool. The bike and run will take place in the park and streets that surround the pool. The event is open to kids ages 6-14 (age as of 12/31/2012).
The distances for each age group are:
6-8 yrs – 50 yard swim, 2.4 mile bike, .50 mile run
9-10 yrs – 100 yard swim, 3.2 mile bike, 1 mile run
11-14 yrs – 200 yard swim, 5.6 mile bike and 1.4 mile run
Parents can register their children on their website at www.douglasshillskidstryathlon.com or at www.active.com. They look forward to seeing everyone out there. I hope it’s a success and they continue so that I can register my kids when they are six!
