Outdoor Dining in and around Louisville, KY: Top Ten Places to Dine Al Fresco

These Louisville local restaurants await your company in their superb outdoor seating venues. All of these were highly recommended by LouFamFun readers.

The Irish Rover   This staple on Frankfort Avenue is a lovely place to people watch the traffic up and down historic Frankfort Ave. I have been here a handful of times both with family and with just my husband and have absolutely loved the atmosphere and the food.

The Grape Leaf   My husband and I recently dined here for the first time for an anniversary celebration. We have definitely put it on our “to do again” list. Dine outside and feel like you’ve been transported to a romantic, quaint city faraway.

Captain’s Quarters  Their seafood menu is loaded, they offer a reasonably priced kid’s menu, and have a Sunday brunch.  It can get busy but with the big lawn along the river, it’s laid back and relaxed – you can even order it “to-go” and eat casually out on the lawn.  Sunset over the Ohio is lovely when paired with fried green chile wontons!

Corbett’s   A great patio awaits you at this little gem near the Old Brownsboro Crossing shopping center. Step away from the hustle and bustle of all the shopping from Cabela’s and The Summit and dine in peace – great date night location.

Village Anchor   A great brunch spot tucked away in quaint Anchorage. See our review here.

The Cafe   Just discovered this jewel on the eastern side of downtown. Check out their Facebook page for updates-they have a patio that cannot be passed up!

Garage Bar
Nulu is a great place to spend an evening.  They have wood-fired pizzas that are really delicious and with such a unique outdoor setting, everyone will like the atmosphere.  Plus, when you are finished eating or even before, you can stroll along Market St and explore!

Johnny Brusco’s NY Style Pizza   Located in Norton Commons in Prospect, this locally owned franchise has great outdoor seating and delicious pizza. They really cater to families with their pizza by the slice – everyone can get what they want and it’s affordable!

Cunningham’s Creekside   Enjoy your meal a bit more relaxed, right on the creek! Have a good ole’ fashioned fish sandwich this summer – I’ve heard it’s one of the tastiest around.

  • Another local favorite with outdoor dining is Mike Linings. With delicious food at reasonable prices, it's no wonder this place has been around for 75+ years. The dozens of picnic tables, and handful of private cabins, sit under massive trees. There's a playground in the middle and patrons can walk to view the Ohio River nearby.

  • I've heard mixed things on Mike Linnig's so my family went to try it. My kids did enjoy being outside but after 1hr + of waiting for food and inquiring and getting nowhere, we had to leave and get food elsewhere because we were so hungry!

  • Mike Linnig's hs excellent food and service. My family has been eating at Mike Linnig's for as long as I can remember. Now you can walk along a ncie path to the waterfront while waiting for your food. And you cannot pass up their lunch fish sandwish special! Drink, fries or slaw and an extremely huge fish sandwich. I would recommend this over and over!

  • I have never had bad service there and love the seafood platter. Cold beer and outside with live music from time to time. I have had to wait for food before due to the number of people there. but they always put a sign up at the ordering station telling you the estimated wait time.

  • Mike Linnig's is consistently hit & miss so you either love it (good times & bad) or you don't.
