Review of Verbena Cafe in Norton Commons

Our days can feel pretty rushed. A leisurely breakfast or brunch is a great way to slow down and relax with family or friends. One of my favorite locally-owned daytime restaurants is Vebena Cafe.

There are many reasons I enjoy Verbena, but I’ll start with its location in Norton Commons. Norton Commons has a charming, modern small-town atmosphere that feels very tranquil. On street parking is available, but I always park in the shared lot directly behind the building walk through the breezeway to get to the front door. The laid-back atmosphere continues inside of the restaurant. I really like that the tables are not crowded together so it’s easy to converse with my family or friends.

Verbena Cafe serves breakfast, brunch and lunch Tuesday – Sunday from 7am – 3pm. For breakfast they offer a wide variety of egg dishes including omelets, skillets, benedicts and specialties. If you prefer a sweeter start to your day, you can choose from pancakes, waffles, blintzes, french toast, crepes and oatmeal. There are also ala carte items available.

For lunch, Verbena serves up salads, wraps, soups, sandwiches, paninis, burgers, fish tacos and other specialties, such as the hot brown (a Kentucky classic)! I have a hard time resisting breakfast, so I admittedly haven’t tried a wide variety of the lunch dishes. However, I absolutely adore the Verbena Flower Pot Salad, which includes a spring mix tossed with cranberries, walnuts, gorgonzola and housemade balsamic vinaigrette. It comes served in a flower pot with artisan cranberry walnut bread and honey cinnamon cream cheese on the side. Beautiful and delicious!

There is also a kids’ menu available for children 10 and under. My children highly recommend the chocolate chip pancakes. I’m not sure they’ve ever tried anything else! The kids’ lunch menu includes staples like grilled cheese and chicken nuggets and even a grilled Nutella and banana sandwich, which sounds downright heavenly.

In the years I’ve been visiting Verbena, the food has always been top quality and the service has been great. They servers are accommodating and personable and the coffee is always hot and delicious.
