Why do we celebrate Father’s Day? Father’s Day in the United States has an interesting history. Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Calvin Coolidge both tried to persuade Congress to make it a national holiday and were turned down. In 1966, President Lyndon B Johnson issued a presidential proclamation designating the third Sunday in June to honor fathers. But finally, in 1972, President Richard Nixon signed Father’s Day as a permanent national holiday. Today we enjoy showing our Dads how much we love and appreciate them, and some businesses in our community have jumped in to help.
