My Big Little Adventure – Kindergarten Readiness Portal

My Big Little Adventure prepares pre-school children for Kindergarten by giving parents access to educational events, tools, and activities that they can do together.

My Big Little Adventure

What is My Big Little Adventure? MyBigLittleAdventure.org is a free website.  This collaboration between Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest, Community Coordinated Child Care, Family Scholar House, Kentucky Science Center, the Louisville Zoo and StageOne Family Theatre aims to help young children and their caregivers explore the world together. Funding support for the endeavor is provided by PNC through the PNC Foundation.

My Big Little Adventure The content has been created by educators and partner institutions to provide activities, events, and resources for adults and kids to read, play, and explore together. The activities are simple and geared toward children under the age of five. Everything is themed and relate to things all around families in their home, community, and world. The first theme is “change” so the activities and gathering event will be centered around making change in your world. Over the course of a year, they will add quarterly themes and updating engagement opportunities at partner locations.

At a recent press event, the Kentucky Science Center’s Jo Haas said this resource is intended to reach a “diverse set of families” and great events that serve as “gathering points” for these families. The hope is that My Big Little Adventure will show families that they can learn anywhere and have fun doing it, even right in their home or neighborhood. Fun doesn’t have to have a price tag. These organizations want to eliminate barriers to opportunities that will prepare children for school learning.

As seen below, activities can be filtered in many ways based on location, theme, time needed to complete, and cost. There is also a calendar of events that take place at partner institutions.
