If you are staying home for spring break staycation, there’s plenty to do to make for a memorable week! People come to Louisville for spring break, so why not enjoy what they are enjoying in your own hometown.

Here are our ideas for a Louisville Spring Break Staycation!

Monday, April 1: 

Outside: Head to the Louisville Zoo to see all the animals, take a ride on the train, or a spin on the carousel. The zoo hours are from 10am – 5pm (stay until 6pm) beginning March 16th. Discounts available for Military. 1100 Trevilian Way Louisville, KY 40213

Inside: Awesome Outdoor Products– Go by and visit their pay and play showroom where they have 7 Rainbow Playsystem playsets, a pop-a-shot basketball goal, cars and trains set up in a heated showroom (no air conditioning). This is fun for the preschool and elementary age kids if the weather leads you indoors. Pay and Play is $7.00 M-F and $10 on Saturday. Tuesday, April 2: 

Outside: Head down by the river to feel the breeze and enjoy some sunshine, cross the Big Four® Bridge and for lunch or a snack in Jeffersonville. Be sure to go to Schimpff’s Confectionery because they have recently expanded and if you haven’t been there in a while,you’ll be pleasantly surprised by all of their new space. Check here for more restaurant ideas and a map to find them.

Inside/Outside: Check out Renaissance Fun Park and enjoy some laser tag, go karts, or mini golf. For a detailed list of prices and hours visit their website. Wednesday, April 3: 

Outside/Inside: Visit Locust Grove for a historical tour. Open M-Sat 10am – 4:30pm and Sun 1pm – 4:30pm. Tours begin with the (optional) showing of an introductory video, each hour on the quarter hour (10:15, 11:15, 12:15; 1:15, 2:15; 3:15). The tour of the house and grounds then follows at the half-hour, and lasts approximately 45 minutes. Allow for 45 minutes before or after your tour to explore our new museum gallery. Inside: Visit your neighborhood library for story times and other events that are scheduled. Each library has a ton of programming available throughout the week so you can visit multiple during your spring break staycation. Check the website for times and ideas. You can expand your reach beyond the one closest to you and discover a new favorite…..for free fun!

 

Thursday, April 4: 

Outside: Go explore a park you’ve never visited before. Some parks that may be fun include: Parklands at Floyds Fork, Iroquois Park, or Cherokee Park. Visit this link for a list of Parks in the Louisville Metro Area.

Inside: Find an adventure at Louisville Mega Caverns. You can go on a zip line tour, challenge yourself on an aerial ropes course, take a tour on the mega tram, or ride your bike on the underground bike park. Advance reservations are probably a good idea, although walk-ins are welcome on some of the attractions (but space is not guaranteed). Some of these attractions have height/weight restrictions so check those out before you go. Friday, April 5: 

Outside: Take a ride and visit Bernheim Arboretum for their Spring Break Adventure Week. They typically have a special week of daily drop-in activities and guided nature hikes for children of all ages. Bernheim also offers on-your-own hiking, fishing, picnicking, wildlife viewing, and opportunities for free play at our Children’s Play Garden – not to mention the fields, forests and creeks you are welcome to roam.
And, for 2019, the Forest Giants creations that will be on display that will surely be something of wonder! What a special thing to see on your spring break staycation!

Inside: Go “do science” for fun learning over spring break at the Kentucky Science Center. Discover exhibits, play and/or watch a movie on their 4-Story Digital Theater. Hours are Su-Th 9:30am – 5pm and F – Sa 9:30am – 9 pm. Prices are located on their website and if you go after 5pm on Friday or Saturday, tickets only cost $5.00 per person. 727 West Main Street Louisville, KY 40202

 

Saturday, April 6: 

Outside: Go to the Louisville Nature Center and walk through the native wildflower gardens, seasonal butterflies and dragonflies in our gardens, view the indoor exhibits and mural, observe wildlife up-close in our bird blind, look at books and do activities in our library, or hike in Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve. 3745 Illinois Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky 40213

In the evening, take in a Louisville City FC home game. They will be playing Pittsburgh at Slugger Fields at 7pm.

Inside: Visit the Gheens Science Hall & Rauch Planetarium. Public shows run Friday, Saturday and Sunday at various times. Go to outer space on your spring break staycation! Please check their website as show schedules can change. Sunday, April 7:

Outside: If the river is low enough and the weather makes it pleasant, take a trip over to the Falls of the Ohio State park to explore the fossil beds. The interpretive center is for a fee and is really nice, but if you want to simply explore, it’s a small parking fee and you can go inside and ask for a fossil bed map. Hike down to the fossil beds and see what you can discover on this one-of-a-kind spring break staycation activity!

Inside: Go Roller skating at Champs Rollerdrome. Public session run from 5-8pm and 7-10:30pm on Fri; 2-6pm, 5-8pm and 7-10:30pm on Sat; and 2-6pm on Sun. Admission ranges from $8.50 – $9.50 (depending on session) with skate rental of $3. 9851 Lagrange Rd. Louisville, KY 40223
