Spring Break Staycation 2020

DCPD

This will be one Spring Break that we will all remember and we are here to help you make the most out of the situation at hand. While it might not be the vacation that was planned, it can still be a fun-filled  Staycation.

At home spring break

Being stuck at home can be hard. Being stuck at home during spring break can be even harder. We get it and have put together some fun ideas to help you have the best staycation while practicing social distancing.

Indoor Ideas for Spring Break Staycation 2020

Explore Google Earth – pick a destination you have always wanted to go to and look it up on Google Earth. Each day you can find a new place to explore while you are on your Spring Break Staycation. Find out what they eat there, what the weather is like this time of year, what language do they speak? What games do kids play?

Video call a friend and play a board game. Set up the game and one person is in control of the board. This person moves the pieces. Make sure each friend that is playing has a set of dice the roll when it is there turn. Get creative and have fun!

Make each dinner a theme dinner.

  • Monday – Fairytale Dinner – Each person dresses up as their favorite fairytale career and had to act like them.
  • Wednesday – Shipwreck dinner where you have to use things you would not normally eat. Such as you have to eat with a big wooden spoon, eat your meal out of a mixing bowl. Do a fairytale
  • Friday – Fancy Dinner Night where you put on your nice clothes, light some candles, use real dishes and pretend you are at a fancy restaurant.

Ride Disney rides virtually

Make a quarantine salt dough family stone.

Have a dance party in your PJ’s. Lots of DJ’s are hosting live dance parties. DJ Kopec is doing one on March 28 from 7pm-9pm.

Make “sand” and kids can use little toys to create a beach world or just play and make a mess in a big plastic bin! If you have small bathroom cups, they can pack the same and build sandcastles.

Have a runway fashion show where everyone styles their own outfits and then shows them off.

Make cards for nearby nursing homes or better yet, coffee filter flowers.

Video call a friend and play a board game. Set up the game and one person in control of the board. This person moves the pieces. Make sure each friend that is playing has a set of dice the roll when it is there turn. Get creative and have fun!

Have any old white shirts around the house? Sharpies? Rubbing alcohol? You can TIE-DYE!

Pick up a cookie kit (or two!). We have a list of bakeries offering cookie and/or cupcake kits. Belmar Baked and make fancy cookies together. They have fun spring-themed kits.

Minute to win it gamesWe all need to be a little silly at times and the minute to win it games are great to help us bring our inner silly. Kids love them and most can be done with stuff you already have around the house.

Outdoor Scavenger Hunt – What can you find in your yard or around your neighbors for each letter of the alphabet? What did you find that was new to you? What surprised you?

Check out hiking and biking trails. Click the links to find some around town.

Backyard Camping– Take a virtual tour of Yosemite and get in the mindset to go camping! Camping is a great way to change it up a bit. Build a campfire, pitch a tent, make campfire food, sing songs together and tell stories.

Chalk a beach scene all-around your home. Draw the ocean, a sunset, the beach, umbrellas. Layout beach towels and have a picnic at the beach.

Were you going to jet-set off to some wonderful spring break spot? Make some paper airplanes together and have a friendly family competition to see who can fly their plane the highest, furthest.
