Sidewalk chalk paint is something you can make with ingredients from your pantry. It comes out bright and smooth on the sidewalk!

chalk paint We enjoyed a spring afternoon in the sun leaving messages and art for neighbors on our sidewalk. Sidewalk chalk has been so popular lately, we wanted to try something different. With bumpy sidewalks and driveways, the regular chalk doesn’t work that well. We wondered how to make sidewalk chalk paint. We looked up several recipes and decided on the simplest one and really, we set our expectations pretty low.

To our surprise, this paint worked so well. We were mesmerized as the paint dried super quickly on a sunny warm day and turned into bright sidewalk creations.  We each took a section of the sidewalk for art, riddles, math, messages, and splatter (splatter was the most fun).

Give it a try!

How to make sidewalk chalk paint:sidewalk chalk ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of Corn starch
  • 4 cups of water
  • Variety of food coloring (neon is GREAT!)

In a large mixing bowl, mix the corn starch and water until it’s like milk and nothing is settled on the bottom of the bowl. Ladle or pour the mixture into plastic cups. Drop food coloring into each cup and stir until you get it bright!

Head outside with sponge paint brushes or other old brushes. House painting brushes work really well too because they are absorbent. Paint and watch the water dry up quickly and a beautiful color appear on the sidewalk. I imaging this will POP even more on a black surface!
