Apple picking Louisville

Apple picking is so much fun. Bring bug spray! And, have your recipes ready because you will surely go home with plenty.

Apple picking near Louisville and even right in town takes place in late summer. We will update this post later in summer 2020. It is always a good idea to check before you go to know the status of their u-pick. Places change their schedules, do not open do to weather (or pandemics!), or seasonal changes to operations.
We love apple picking together. Whether it’s the search for the perfect apples, or just spending time together outside, it’s something we always enjoy. And, we get to figure out what to do with all of the apples we take home because we always pick too many!

Hidden Hollow Orchard right here in Louisville is also a good place to visit. Check their website for updates – they keep their website up to date. So far, they have a mysterious message regarding apple picking in 2020. We reached out to them and they said there are no apples this year due to the late frost.

This orchard is really rustic and when you drive in, you kind of feel like you are trespassing. But, you are not! Definitely bring bug spray.

Huber’s Orchard & Winery has a large variety of apples for picking plus tons of fun! For 2020, they have a farm park pass for the play area that may be a good option if you decide you will go to Huber’s a few times for summer and into fall.

Be sure to call them before you go to check on what they have that day for u-pick. It’s always changing! We heard from them on 8/19/20 and they said they likely will not have enough apples for u-pick this year due to the late freeze. However, they will have some apples available in the farm store.

Joe Huber’s Farm (temporarily closed) in Starlight, IN is a great place to pick some apples. Take a tractor ride to the orchard and have your pick of apples. Make it a day there and enjoy some outside time with your family.

Gallrein Farms is just east in Shelby County and they have season fruit to pick. Usually, you check their farm schedule and call ahead to see if apples are ready! They have said that their apples did not do well with the late freeze so there are no apples to pick this year. They have a cute petting zoo also. An excellent option for apple picking near Louisville.

Eckerts Orchards is just a short drive down I-64 in Versailles. Here’s their schedule for crops so you plan accordingly. They have picking and all sorts of fun events and festivals for the fall. Saturday, August 22 & – Sunday, August 23: Pick-Your-Own Gala Apples. You must make registrations in 2020.

Mulberry Orchard

Mulberry Orchard Farm Park

Mulberry Orchard in Shelby County is a great place to visit with families! They will not have u-pick apples this year but you can visit their farm store for some of their apples. They also have a farm play area and hayrides in the fall (confirmed for 2020).

Here’s another great post from Oldham Family Fun that has even more ideas & details including some farm markets to get local apples!

And what to do with all these apples from apple picking near Louisville? Turn them into an apple crisp, apple butter, apple pie, applesauce, dry the apples, make caramel apples and then decorate them with dried fruit and candy to make them look like jack-o-lanterns.

One of my favorite recipe sites is and they have a great recipe for slow cooker apple butter that can also be frozen to be used later. Hidden Hollow Orchard website also has several apple recipes. So many options you may want to try out both orchards so you can enjoy the apple goodies.
