One of the best free events in February, Every Sunday is FREE at the Speed Art Museum for Owsley Sunday! The free Sunday admission is named in honor of the late Owsley Brown II. Please note, due to the pandemic this lower-levels children’s area is not open.
There is a new, free exhibit at Bowman Field recognizing Black achievement in aviation. Throughout February, The Sky’s the Limit: A Celebration of the History of Black Achievement in Aviation will highlight the efforts by men and women from flight and space travel. Learn about Bessie Coleman, the first Black woman to receive a pilot’s license and Katherine Johnson who worked at NASA putting astronauts into space. The exhibit is open all of February 2021. Open Mondays through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bowman Field in the Art-Deco terminal building located at 2815 Taylorsville Road. It’s a really cool building to explore as well!
In February 2021, KMAC Museum will offer free admission to museum guests who bring in food or personal care items to donate to Louisville non-profit Change Today, Change Tomorrow’s Feed the West initiative. (oatmeal variety packs, canned goods, bread, diapers, infant formula, baby wipes, breastfeeding materials, toddler and children’s snacks, bottled water, period products, deodorant, bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Organic fruits and vegetables, fresh and frozen meats and eggs will also be accepted. All items should be in their original packaging and well within their expiration dates.)
Virtual storytime with Barnes and Nobles at the Paddock Shop on Saturdays in February for their FREE Storytime starting at 11:00am.
Visit the Louisville Nature Center. A truly unique community resource, the Louisville Nature Center offers wonderful opportunities for nature study and recreation–right in the heart of the city! The Louisville Nature Center provides nature education and encourages stewardship in an urban forest. Admission is free! (no dogs or bikes)
Join the Louisville Free Public Library for one of their virtual events. They host family trivia, storytime, and online events for adults. Here’s a link to their events list.
Get your free membership to the Frazier History Museum and visit. It’s really calm and quiet, a great way to get out from the cold and learn. Enjoy some pizza downtown at Luigi’s for lunch or maybe a treat at Ah! Whatta Bout Mimi.
