Looking for free events this month? Let’s highlight some fun April! We know our readers like free family fun so here are some ideas for heading out with your kid without worrying about tickets!

Here’s a great list of free events in April. We hope you can get outside and have fun together as a family this month.

April 1 – 30: Give back to the community and participate as a family in the Mayor’s Give A Day Month. A menu of safe and socially-distanced community projects are listed in the link– or create one of your own.

Returning with free events in April 2023: Shakespeare in the Parks Tour; times and locations vary.

Saturday, April 1: 2pm-7pm is the Holi Festival of Color. Holi Gin, 1110 Wilson Ave. A time to spread love and color with the arrival of Spring. We’ll play with colors, visit with friends and make new ones, celebrate with family, and make joyous new memories. Join us as we’ll have Cincinnati’s DJey Shrek Sharma spinning tunes and hosting games. There will be arts & crafts vendors, food trucks, and a special area just for kids activities. Sign up on Eventbrite for your first packet of color for FREE! Let’s make this Holi a memorable one!

April 1-6: Kids 12 and under get into the Kentucky Derby Museum for FREE for Spring Break. *Offer valid March 26 – April 6 // Sunday – Thursday only*

Friday, April 7: Caesars Foundation of Floyd County FamFest is one of the Kentucky Derby Festival’s 2023 Kick-off events! A FREE Family-friendly event celebrating the best parts of Festival: featuring inflatables, live music, elements of Derby Festival, face painting and more! First 500 attendees receive a custom Pegasus Pin.

Saturday, April 8: Enjoy some UofL Men’s Soccer for FREE at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium, game starts at 4:00pm

Saturday, April 15: Spring Street Festival, 12-9pm, The Alcove at 246 Spring Street. Music, food, and family fun!

Saturday, April 15: Puppy Palooza at Westport Village from 11am-2pm. Bring your furry friends to join us for a paw-some afternoon.

Saturday, April 15: Block Party, this free event, returning with the support of Churchill Downs and Humana and the Derby Festival’s Derby Equity Community Initiative (DECI), will be held at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center and will feature food trucks, a marketplace, live entertainment, and more.

Saturday, April 22: Join the Iroquois Library for a Día celebration featuring author Marta Miranda-Straub. She will be doing a bilingual reading of her book Lullaby for Maddie. They will also have crafts and book giveaways to celebrate!

Sunday, April 30: The Farmers Market at Norton Common opens for the season! The hours are 12-4 pm and it will be open every Sunday. Norton Commons is a great neighborhood for walking and boasts multiple playgrounds and locally-owned businesses. Additional Farmers Markets around Louisville can be found here.

April 28-30: StoryWalk at the Parklands. Enjoy reading a children’s book while walking along the Egg Lawn Signature Trail in Beckley Creek Park. Follow the signs placed around the Egg Lawn to read the entire story.

Saturday & Sunday, April 29 & 30: Cherokee Triangle Art Fair, Artists and food vendor booths will be located on the streets surrounding  Willow Park, in  the Cherokee Triangle neighborhood (Cherokee Parkway between Willow Ave. and Cherokee Rd.).
