Typically, horseback activities are reserved for those ages six and up while pony rides are more appropriate for those under six. Each business has different age ranges, though, so be sure to check before you go. Here’s our list of some just a few of the great places not too far from Louisville for trail ride.

I know, I know, there really aren’t any in Louisville. So, we had to take you on a little bit of a drive for the horseback riding and trail ride experience. We hope it’s worth it for you and your family!

La Grange, KY
100 acres of beautiful Kentucky pasture! Rolling hills and lush green pastures offer plenty of space, many trees and shaded areas. Though they do not have trail rides listed on their website, they do offer them. Call to make appointment (502) 322-4861
 

Georgetown, KY

Their website states they have over 250 acres of heavily wooded trails with hills, creeks, trees, and wildlife for beginners to experienced riders.
Trail rides are 50 minutes long.
Children must be over 8 years old to ride alone, and there is a weight limit of 240 lbs. 
 
Simpsonville, KY at Shelby Trails Park
Their website states they have guided horseback trail rides with 25 beautiful scenic trails over 462 acres. 
Trail rides are 1 hour long plus half an hour introductory lesson and equipment fitting.
Children must be over 8 years old to ride (no double riding or shared rides). If any adults are 250 lbs. or over, check first to make sure they can be accommodated.
 
Shelbyville, KY
This is just for the adults! They have romantic trail rides by special reservation only. Groom your horses, go for a guided ride and then return to the barn for sparkling cider and appetizers. It’s a really unique idea. 
 
Harrodsburg, KY
The website claims Big Red Stables is a slice of heaven on earth, and reports they have “rolling hills, flowering meadows, and ancient creeks in the heart of central Kentucky.”
Children must be 12 years old to ride, and there is a weight limit of 225 lbs. 
Richmond, KY
The website states there are seven miles of trails through Daniel Boone Country and are only available on Saturdays and Sundays. 
Trail rides are one hour long.
Children must be 8 years old to ride.
 
 
Mammoth Cave, KY
The website states this is the only business authorized to provide guided horse trails through Mammoth Cave National Park.
Trail rides are one to four hours long.
Children must be 6 years old to ride, and there is a weight limit of 250 lbs.
 
Cave City, KY
One of the oldest stables in Kentucky with over 500 acres of trails.
Guided trail rides are a half hour to two hours long.
Children ages 2-5 must ride with an adult, and weight limit of 140 lbs.

Corbin, KY
The website boasts the park has trail rides for first timers through experienced riders through the Kentucky forest.
45 minute guided trail ride.
Children must be 6 years old (no riding double or shared rides).
 
Petersburg, KY
This is a unique bed and breakfast with horseback riding. Horseback riding starts in the arena with instruction and moves to the trails when the riders are ready.
Riding time is two hours which includes lessons and then a scenic trail ride around the farm lands.
Children must be 8 years old, and weight limit of 225 lbs.
