Review of Bryant’s Blueberries

Blueberry picking near Louisville!

Love blueberry picking? If you love blueberries, then a trip to Bryant Blueberries in New Salisbury, IN is a must for the summer! I took my 1 year-old there recently and picked until our hearts’ content – which was only about an hour for my youngest son.

Blueberry picking

It took about an hour to get there from our home in southeast Louisville. It was super easy to find following their directions from their e-mails and website and with large signs on the road. They are only open certain days so you will need to sign up for their e-mails so you know when they are open.

For 2023, Bryant’s opened on June 10 and will likely be open Wednesdays and Saturdays. They said to use Corydon #105 exit because of road construction. Bring your own containers and get them weighed before you start picking. They prefer cash but take credit cards/debit cards. No pets! Put your bug and sun screen spray on while in the parking lot – the chemicals are bad for the plants.

We arrived at 9 am and their parking area was already pretty full. They started at 7:30am. We parked near the road and it was a short walk back to the blueberries. There is a blue pole-barn that will have containers for picking or if you brought your own – right inside there is a scale to weigh your containers before picking. (By this barn are 2 port-o-pots and a spigot with water and soap.) There is a small chalkboard listing the rows and types of blueberries that are available for picking.

I brought our backpack carrier for my son, but a jogging stroller or wagon would be just fine, but definitely do not recommend an umbrella stroller if you need help with a small one. The rows were wide and well maintained. The blueberries were very easy to pick and lots were at my son’s level so he was able to help pick too. After done picking, we headed back to the blue barn where there were 4-5 cashiers checking people out. There was a line, but it moved fairly quickly.

In about an hour, we picked 4lbs of blueberries. They sell for $2.75/lb (2023 price – Prices change year to year, check their website for current prices). I definitely recommend coming earlier in the day versus later because they close whenever most of the berries have been picked. In their e-mail they recommend calling if you plan on coming after noon. Also be sure to pack some sunscreen with you. Fortunately, we were not bothered by bugs while visiting.

Now we are looking forward to eating some blueberry muffins and freezing the extras – if there is any!

If you want to make a day out of it, Marengo Cave is not too far from Bryant’s.
