The Reindeer Farm in Kentucky
Did you know there is a reindeer farm in Kentucky? We recently visited The Reindeer Farm – a small, family farm in Bowling Green Kentucky, about two hours south of Louisville.
Yes, there’s a reindeer farm in Kentucky! This is the third year The Reindeer Farm has been open, but the first year it has been open to the public during the day, rather than just reservations for private groups in the evenings.
Guests can purchase a reservation for a Day Pass for $15 (2 year olds and under get in free), or add a Reindeer Encounter with the Day Pass for $35 each.
For 2023, they are open November 17-December 17
The Day Pass to this reindeer farm in Kentucky includes indoor and outdoor activities all over the farm including an indoor swingset and gift shop, letters to Santa, outdoor yard games, a bouncy house, multiple fire rings (you can purchase smores ingredients for $5 in the gift shop), there are multiple selfie spots, Christmas Karaoke, a fire truck to climb on, a mini train ride, and lots of animals.
Even without the Reindeer Encounter, you have the opportunity to see multiple reindeer (including two reindeer that are less than a year old) such as Scottish cows!
Also there are pigs, rabbits, alpacas, crias (alpacas that are less than one year old), guinea fowls, donkeys, ponies, and cats. All of this is without any extra fee (except for food, drinks, and gift purchases).
If you purchase the half hour Reindeer Encounter at this reindeer farm in Kentucky, a group of up to 20 people go into the reindeer pen at the designated time. You get to learn about the reindeer, pet the reindeer, and take lots of pictures with the reindeer.
The reindeer are very friendly. In fact, reindeer at this don’t have top teeth, and only very small bottom teeth. They have antlers and hoofs for defense – they aren’t biters. The farm staff have the reindeer on leads and tell you how each reindeer likes to be approached and pet. It felt like a very safe experience.
While we were there, we ate lunch at the food truck at the farm. It was very reasonably priced, very quick, and good tasting. They had a good menu selection for kids, and there wasn’t anything over $8 (most items are under $5 with $1 for water and soda). Our food was ready in about five minutes, and there was plenty of seating. There were also clean porta potties with hand sanitizer.
We also got to watch live chainsaw wood carving. While chainsaw carving isn’t every day, calendar for this reindeer farm in Kentucky for November and December includes other activities like ice carving, character visits, singing, cookie decorating, and visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
While we enjoyed being at The Reindeer Farm for almost three hours, it might be a good trip to combine with other activities due to the travel time to Bowling Green. We chose to stop at Funtopia Playground in Elizabethtown which is about half way to The Reindeer Farm. We also considered spending time at Aviation Heritage Park, Lost River Cave, The Corvette Museum, Mammoth Cave, Kentucky Down Under, and Dinosaur World. There’s a ton to see between Louisville and The Reindeer Farm. We hope you enjoy it too!
