Are you looking for fun things to do on MLK Day with Kids? There are many MLK Day events and ways to celebrate. There are Martin Luther King Jr. Day events in Louisville from commemorative events to fun outings.

Here are some MLK Day events and ideas for things to do with kids. You can spend the day working on a service project, learning about Martin Luther King Jr., or having a fun day together as a family. 

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Events:

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 15), Muhammad Ali Center be open with free admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of their first Community Free Day of the Year! Stop by and visit!

Mayor Craig Greenberg and Rep. Morgan McGarvey, along with Louisville Parks and Recreation will host a MLK Day of Service tree planting on Monday, January 15, 2024, Noon to 3p.m. at Victory Park. THIS HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER.

Join on Sunday, January 14th for the MLK Weekend Invite at 10:00am. This event invites youth and high school runners to compete in the state of the art Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. The fun zone will be open during this event. 

Keepers of the Dream: A Community Arts Celebration of Dr. King’s Vision – Kentucky Performing Arts ArtsReach and River City Drum Corp are proud to present Keepers of the Dream, A Community Celebration of Dr. King’s Vision, returning to The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts’ Whitney Hall Sunday, January 14th at 5:00PM. The 2024 Keepers of the Dream program will highlight Black Joy. The civil rights movement was a trying time but, through the crevices of trauma, Black Americans still managed to find hope and joy. They will celebrate Dr. King’s Dream with performances from their community stages recipients; River City Drum Corp, Keen Dance Theatre, and Redline Performing Arts.  Also featuring LaNita Rocknettes School of Dance, The Real Young Prodigys, The Louisville Living Room, Joshua Percell and Courageous, UofL African American Theatre Program, and much more. This event will offer FREE parking in The Kentucky Center Garage.

Join Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre and the Archdiocesan Gospel Choir who will celebrate Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through Scripture, reflective readings, and songs of praise. This will be held at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption (433 South Fifth Street, Louisville) on Monday.

The 52nd annual MLK Jr. Motorcade and Peace Walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, and will make its way through the community to Chickasaw Park. The group will travel down Broadway to begin MLK services at the church.

Join Side by Side Studio Monday as they honor Martin Luther King Jr Crafting for Kindness! Design & Craft, to give, to keep, or to contribute. This is a family friendly all ages welcome event! This is also a FREE event and pre registration is not required. Time: 2:00-4:00 (drop in anytime).

The United States Postal Service will be closed Monday, so there will be no regular mail deliveries. Other delivery services — including United Parcel Service and FedEx will be operating. FedEx Express and FedEx Ground Economy will have modified services.
