Labor Day Weekend events! School may have just started but local families love this three-day weekend that’s an unofficial goodbye to summer.

The summer temperatures are still here, and so are the events. Find something fun outdoors to do with your family.

Labor Day Weekend is upon us and we are here to help you get ready! Summer may be coming to a close but that doesn’t mean the fun is going to stop. 

We have found that outdoor areas are amazing around our city. There are so many parks and creeks, lots tucked away where you didn’t know it was there. Trust us, your kids will love new adventures. We also have some of the city’s regular activities going strong so you should have lots of options for fun.

Your family is still looking for fun. What is there to do?

Holiday World – This Indiana amusement park is open for Labor Day weekend with their rides and the water park open.

Hike Bike and Paddle is on September 2. If you are looking to get active this weekend, you can still do it. The Hike, Bike, and Paddle is a Labor Day weekend staple on the Waterfront Park Great Lawn. Starting at 8 a.m., the event will showcase demonstrations and group participation in Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba. There’s fitness fun for everyone. 

Lakes

Catch the waves at a local lake. We have some options here. Many of the beaches will close after Labor Day Weekend.

WorldFest – Friday – Monday of Labor Day weekend. One of the region’s largest international festivals, celebrates its 21st anniversary with four days of expanded world food, live music, dance, culture and education. It takes place downtown on the Belvedere. Definitely make sure you go hungry and try some of the delicious food options.

Belle of Louisville has a variety of options for rides on the river on their boats. They have a variety of cruises this weekend. Click here to see their options for the weekend. 

Come do-si-do your partner under Turner’s huge pavilion to live music performed by the Whirligigs. Greer Hannan will calling the dances and will provide basic instruction throughout the evening for their Square Dance Party. Food will be served from 6pm – 8pm and the dancing will go from 7pm – 9pm.

Head over the river to Joe Huber’s Family Farm & Restaurant and enjoy a Labor Day Buffet. They have really cute farm activities for kids!

The Fleur De Flea Outdoor curated vintage market returns on August 31st, Labor Day weekend. Join them and over 200 vendors selling antiques, vintage, funk, junk, collectables, vintage clothes, handmade, repurposed, flowers, pumpkins, vegetables and so much more. Family friendly and pet friendly, 9am-6pm.

Brews, Tunes, & BBQ – Bring blankets and lawn chairs for an evening of fun & food at Pope Lick Park on August 31st. Live music with the John Ryan Band and the movie will be Indiana Jones: The Temple of Doom (1984).

Shop arts, crafts and more in Shelbyville Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Outdoor festivals are fun and you might get ahead on some holiday shopping, way ahead! Details here

Gallrein Farms is hosting a Sunflower & Corn Festival again this year! They will have sunflower picking, activities, food trucks, vendors and their usual like shopping the farm market and they have a petting zoo. It is Saturday, August 31 from 10am to 6pm, Sunday, September 1st from 12pm to 5pm and Monday, September 2nd from 10am-6pm. It will also be held September 7th & 8th!

The Labor Day Weekend Show is happening on Saturday and Sunday at Paristown! Don’t miss a stellar lineup including members from Coral Reefer Band and trending trop rock artists. “Parrotheads” and live music lovers are expected to flock from all over the region for “The Labor Day Weekend Show” in loving memory of Jimmy Buffett.
