There are plenty of FREE August events to enjoy before and after school begins.
It may be August but summer is still in full swing around Louisville. Check out the list below to find some great FREE August events to keep your family smiling.

Shakespeare in the Park – Central Park starting at 8pm, last night is August 9th
August 1
Summer Reading Finale – Now that Summer Reading is over, celebrate your accomplishments with Parkland Library at Alberta O Jones Park! Join them for a day full of amazing crafts, fun games, great friends, Fossi Lou Balloons and more! Make sure to stop by for a live truck demonstration with kNOw Waste Louisville and pick up a free gift to take home. 10:30am-1:30pm
Family Playdate Summer Reading Finale – Join them for a family play date to celebrate the end of summer reading with games, activities and refreshments! St. Matthew’s Library, 10:30am-12:30pm.
Family Fun-Summer Reading Finale – Join them outside for popsicles, bubbles, ice painting, & other activities. Newburg Library, 10:30-11:30am.
Summer Reading Finale – Join the Southwest Library for a fun, silly, and thoroughly entertaining afternoon! This comical trickster is secretly known as Ken Neuhauser.
After the show, enjoy cotton candy and a craft! 2-3pm

Surfside Summer Jams – Surfside Summer Jams, featuring White Woolly! Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Bag chairs are encouraged for the lawn. The Depot features a full bar, food trucks, boutique shops and more! Doors open at 7 pm with a vinyl set by DJ Matt Anthony, then the band plays at 8 pm.
August 7
Highview Friday Fest – 6pm, Local music, local food trucks, and community socializing every other Friday, throughout the Summer.

171st Annual St. Joe’s Picnic For the Kids – St. Joseph Childern’s Home – Friday 5:00-11pm and Saturday 12:00pm-12:00am
August 8
Summer Family Fun Day – KMAC, Family Fun Days are free fun-filled days of programming for families and friends of all ages! Family Fun Days are organized in conjunction with each of the Museum’s quarterly exhibitions and feature a number of exciting activities and free admission to the museum all day. 11am-3pm
August 13
Surfside Summer Jams – featuring Sheryl Rouse! Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Bag chairs are encouraged for the lawn. The Depot features a full bar, food trucks, boutique shops and more! Doors open at 7 pm with a vinyl set by DJ Matt Anthony, then the band plays at 8 pm.
August 14
Downtown Drive-Ins – Crazy Rich Asians (PG-13), The amphitheater opens to the public one hour before sundown when the movies will start. Downtown Drive-Ins will include snacks and beer for purchase.
August 15
Water Wars – Zoom down water slides, test your skills in the obstacle course, or enjoy the splash pad and water tables. Bring your water gun for the ultimate water war experience! Silver Street Park, 12-2pm.
Jammin in Jeff at Riverstage – Welcome back to the Riverstage for another unforgettable night of live music at Jammin in Jeff! Get ready for an electric evening as Thunderstruck, the ultimate AC/DC tribute band, takes the stage bringing all the high-voltage hits you know and love. Doors open at 5pm!

Surfside Summer Jams – featuring Hot Brown Smackdown! Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Bag chairs are encouraged for the lawn. The Depot features a full bar, food trucks, boutique shops and more! Doors open at 7 pm with a vinyl set by DJ Matt Anthony, then the band plays at 8 pm.
August 26
WFPK Waterfront Wednesday – Louisville’s favorite concert series returns on Wednesday, August 26! The free concerts take place on the Big Four Lawn in Louisville’s Waterfront Park. The Big Four Lawn is located next to the Big Four Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge. The shows open at 5pm, with music beginning promptly at 6pm.
August 27
