And, we want to keep kids active and busy even without many summer events. There are so many options for families from hiking to skipping rocks in creeks to day trips.

Below we provide ideas to give your family a place to look when you wake up in the morning and say “What are we going to do today?!”
Explore parks, hike, fish and more. Go to a new-to-you location so it is an adventure. Get takeout from a local restaurant and have a picnic. There’s so much out there!
We have been enjoying so many outings together in order to report back to you all. Our posts can help you find new-to-you places for outdoor summer fun. Don’t forget the sunscreen, hats, bug spray, and your water.
Hey, air conditioning is nice in the summer. We are totally down with hanging out inside but still, we look for ways to break up the day with projects. Here are some ideas.
Some days, you have no choice! If it’s a rainy day or just unbearably hot, you want to stay home. And, with the pandemic, I know I have been avoiding indoor places. There are some museums and such open so check those out if you want. Many of them are limiting admission and have strict cleaning regimes that they detail online.
Day Trips/Nearby Travel
You gotta get out of here? There are places close by to visit and explore and feel like you got a taste of vacation without even using a tank of gas!
This has been a really popular topic this year. Day trips fulfill our need for those summer getaways. And, if you stick to Kentucky, you are making safer choices for your family and those around you during the pandemic.
Why not explore our wonderful state and get to know the fun that’s right here.
What? Learning in the summer? YES! Learning can totally take different forms in the summer so why not give it a try. The library and the cultural pass are great resources and here are some more.
Look for learning fun around you. On the day trips or the outdoor fun ideas we posted, there are plenty of learning opportunities. Kids need to be exposed to nature and make connections between their world and everyone’s world. Get kids outside and in different environments in order to all them opportunities to wonder about anything!
Active kids are happy kids, get them tired! But, with 2020 being so different and pools being an uncertainty, same with the spraygrounds and playgrounds, how do we keep our kids active?
This is for the parents too. The pandemic has thrown us all curve balls and I know some parents have had a hard time with fitness routines. If you build movement into your family fun, you are building a healthy family! You are also modeling for your kids that moving their bodies can be satisfying, see what you body can do.
Fun at Home
Just want to spend the days at home? There are experiments, art, and retail deals for bringing fun into your home while supporting local businesses. You can totally have summer fun at home!
Home doesn’t have to be all bad. All summer, if we have an active week, I build in an at-home day so the kids can have a day to relax, get into games, watch a movie, and help me cook.
