If your house is anything like ours, there’s a good chance you’ve heard a kid laugh out loud while reading an Elephant & Piggie book. Mo Willems’ beloved characters have a way of turning simple moments into big adventures. Soon, those adventures are jumping right off the page and onto the stage at the Kentucky Center’s Bomhard Theater.
This month, StageOne Family Theatre is bringing Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!” to life in a lively musical that’s made especially for young audiences. Gerald the Elephant is careful, thoughtful, and sometimes a little worried. Piggie is joyful, spontaneous, and always ready for fun. Together, they tackle everyday situations with humor, heart, and a lot of friendship.
In this stage version, Gerald and Piggie discover something surprising: they’re in a play!
That realization leads to a high-energy adventure filled with catchy songs, silly surprises, and plenty of moments that invite the audience to join in. Kids who love the books will recognize the humor and expressions that make these characters so memorable. For families who are meeting them for the first time, it’s an easy introduction to two of children’s literature’s most lovable friends.
And yes, the famous “Flippy Floppy Floory” dance makes an appearance.
