Families are looking for things to do during Covid for Christmas. These drive-thru holiday events are contactless and outdoors!
Louisville drive thru Christmas lights and drive thru Christmas events are popping up all over the area for contactless, outdoor, safe family fun this holiday season. We are thrilled that places are innovating! Usually, we have a list pages and pages long of all sorts of Christmas events taking place over two months. This year, we have to search a little more!
We have found options for families and will keep adding to this Louisville drive thru Christmas list. If we find more options, we will add them. Events are listed chronologically based on when they open. Lots of these are available every night so it’s a good idea to think about going on a weeknight, these will be popular. Some of these may even have have opportunities to get out and snap some photos!
Although some of these are free drive thru events, there are some that have a fee. For those, we will indicate a fee with ‘$’ so you know what to expect. And, to be contactless, you likely have to purchase advanced tickets for those Louisville drive thru Christmas events.

Louisville Drive thru Christmas Events:
Clay Street Light Show is NEW and FREE! 1249 S Clay St, 40203. A 10-min drive thru show synchronized to holiday music transmitted through your car’s FM stereo at 89.9 FM. The show runs Fri-Sat 6PM-10pm, and Sunday 6pm-8pm. The owner said he has been been furloughed from work in the entertainment industry for the last 8 months, and he just decided to put this show together to lift everyone’s spirits!
November 13- January 3
Lights Under Louisville ($) Louisville Mega Cavern drive thru Christmas lights. Get your tickets in advance online. There are also daytime experiences for 4-6 people, the Christmas Express. Additionally, you can pay more to ‘skip the line’ and get a priority pass for evening dates.

Light Up Louisville – Downtown festive light display will include a rainbow of colors to celebrate Christmas, along with holiday-themed gobo lights celebrating Kwanza, Hanukah and all of the seasons special days that seek to reflect the diversity of our community. You can nominate your neighborhood for a Santa convoy!
November 21 – December 31
Free Drive through light show in Jeffersontown, Veterans Memorial Park. Save the date: December 21 5:30-7pm, Santa and Elves will be there. Isn’t it wonderful that this Louisville drive thru Christmas event is free?!
November 22 – December 31
Southern Lights Holiday Festival ($) (canceled) The Kentucky Horse Park – 5:30 pm-10pm. If you are looking for a little trip, take an excursion to Lexington for this drive thru holiday lights event. You drive thru three miles of dazzling holiday light displays along the charming farm lanes at the horse park.

November 22 – January 2
Rudolph’s Run ($) An adventure in your car, solving clues to find the missing information to complete Santa’s List. If you complete the list, you will be entered to win a $100 gift card and they will draw a winner each week. They will event have a skating rink at the end. (Masks required, limited capacity)
Blue’s Light Show is also fun for the family and free to experience. At this home, the sequence the lights to music. When you are there, to listen to the music, please tune your radio to 91.3 FM and enjoy. When visiting, you stay in your care and take in the show! Very save Louisville drive thru light show and holiday event! Location: 4602 Glenna Way, 40219.
November 25 – January 1
Lights at Freeman Lake Park (Elizabethtown) – If you are looking for an evening out, you can go to Freeman Lake Park nightly from 6 – 11pm. Drive thru lights with fun themes like Rudolph, to Christmas themed Star Wars, nativity and more. You turn off your lights and turn on the music! It is free, donations accepted.
November 27 – End of December
Charlestown’s Christmas City – This is in Southern Indiana. Technically, you get out and walk around. However, if you want to drive thru and see the lights, you can see the lights in the town square from the road. You can get out and walk around, wear a mask, social distance. They typically have events and other attractions but most are canceled this year. But, we are glad they are still doing the lights!
November 27 – December 25
Toyland Christmas Display – Awesome house that lights up so bright, it’s wonderful. You can drive by or step out (be safe and maintain distance, wear your masks!). You can learn more about it by clicking here.

November 27 – January 2
Winter Woods Spectacular ($) in Iroquois Park benefiting the Louisville Parks Foundations. This is a ticketed event. Drive through the woods which are lit up with thousands of lights and beautiful wintry scenes. Tickets are $35 per car.
Take a little trip to Frankfort and drive through the lights at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Buffalo Trace is inviting everyone to see the Distillery lit up with thousands of holiday lights from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Dec. 3 though Jan. 1 from the safety of your cars. It is FREE! An estimated 150,000 colorful lights, including four brand new light displays by the Visitor Center. Santa will make a special socially distanced appearance on Dec. 3, 10, 11, 12 and 13. From 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., he will be stationed along the light route and will be following COVID-19 precautions, standing safely behind Plexiglas for 2020. Children may hand their letters to one of Santa’s elves who will place them in a special North Pole mailbox for Santa to read later. Individually pre-wrapped treats will also be handed out by Santa’s elves. Buffalo Trace Distillery is located at 113 Great Buffalo Trace, in Frankfort, Ky.
Drive-thru with the Grinch in La Grange. From 9-11am, Oldham County History Center is adapting their annual event. Volunteers from Whoville will have treats and crafts to drop into bags for kids to take home. Participants are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to put in the drop box for HighPoint Charitable Services.
Light Up St. Matthews Virtual event. Although they are not having an in-person light up event, they will broadcast it on their Facebook page. Then, you can drive by Brown Park and see the lights on your own! Also, they are having a house decorating contest and will have a map available to use to go find houses that are decorated.
