How Sweet It Is
How Sweet It Is – a new ice cream shop in Norton Commons
When you are in the Norton Commons area, pop into this quaint ice cream shop and see what they have on the menu.
Amanda and Kymber are a recently married couple who decided….let’s really dive into this life together and buy a business as well! They were out in Bardstown at a cute coffee and ice cream shop when they decided that they wanted to do something similar here in Louisville.
They now own and operate How Sweet It Is in Norton Commons. My family took a visit to check out the flavors! We visit Norton Commons to eat out, go fishing, and attend events. Naturally, it’s a good idea to get ice cream every time we are there.
They were so friendly and happy to see everyone coming into the shop. The owners seem very excited to get involved in area events and be a part of celebrations. They are having fun making up new sundaes and drink flavors for everyone to try.

The shop is great for a quick stop to grab your treat. There is seating outside but also, we saw families coming and going with their ice cream, coffees, or milkshakes. The shop is in a central location for Norton Commons businesses so you can walk and enjoy your treats. There are some playgrounds nearby for families to make an outing from their ice cream visit.
Amanda told me that they will be seasonally decorated inside of How Sweet It Is and in flavors also. They currently have a Derby-themed sundae, pictured below. They plan to change what they offer based on holidays and seasons so that each time you visit, there’s something different to try. If you get lucky, Amanda said you might even see her son working the register….it’s a family affair and we love that.
They had traditional flavors that everyone wants such as chocolate or strawberry. But, they offered unique flavors like the ‘Go Baby Go’ ice cream (cherry amaretto with chocolate) for Derby season. If you can’t decide, they offer flights of four scoops, which is perfect for sharing. Amanda told me they plan to add ice cream “nachos”!
Many people were ordering milkshakes, which were hand spun. The iced coffee drinks would be my selection, especially in the summer.
Amanda also told me that they can make your birthday parties very sweet. They can set up an ice cream bar so that you can enjoy the fun, and they handle the dessert. They have an ice cream cart that they can bring to parties and events so that you guests can select a favorite ice cream novelty.
How Sweet It Is is open M, W, Th, F from 5:30-9pm, Saturday from noon-9pm, Sunday from 1pm-8pm. Located at 9444 Norton Commons Blvd, Prospect, KY and is open year-round.
