Here are our ideas for a Louisville Fall Break Staycation!
Monday:
Outside: Head down by the river to feel the breeze and enjoy some sunshine, cross the Big Four® Bridge and have lunch or a snack in Jeffersonville. Be sure to go to Schimpff’s Confectionery because they have recently expanded and if you haven’t been there in a while, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by all of their new space. Check here for more restaurant ideas and a map to find them.
Inside: Visit your neighborhood library for story times and other events that are scheduled. Each library has a ton of programming available throughout the week so you can visit multiple during your fall break staycation. Check the website for times and ideas. You can expand your reach beyond the one closest to you and discover a new favorite…for free fun!
Tuesday:
Outside: If the river is low enough and the weather makes it pleasant, take a trip over to the Falls of the Ohio State park to explore the fossil beds. The interpretive center is for a fee and is really nice, but if you want to simply explore, it’s a small parking fee and you can go inside and ask for a fossil bed map. Hike down to the fossil beds and see what you can discover on this one-of-a-kind fall break staycation activity!
Inside/Outside: Check out Xtremenasium they claim to have the Best Trampoline Park & Ninja Challenge Course around. Hours of Operation – Monday -Thursday, 3pm-8pm Lil ninja time (5 and under) Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 12pm – 3pm, Friday, 3pm-10pm, Saturday, 12pm – 10pm, Sunday, Noon-6pm.
Wednesday:
Outside: Visit your favorite pumpkin patch or discover a new one. We suggest taking a road trip to Cecilia, KY to visit Thomas Diary Farm & Market for affordable pumpkins, mums and lots of fall fun. General admission for ages 4-59 is $12/person and it includes the corn pit, two mazes, unlimited jumping pad, slides and so much more. Senior admission, ages 60+ is $9/person and kids under 3 get in for free. For a list of other patches near Louisville click here.
Inside: Champs Roller Dome is a fun indoor option for after nap time. They host open skate on Wednesday.
Thursday:
Outside: Take a 2 hour cruise of the Ohio River on The Belle of Louisville. The Mary M. Miller is hosting their picnic lunch and it will set sail at noon. Prices are: $38.99 for adults ages 13-64, $36.99 for Seniors ages 65+, $25.99 for children 3-12 and kids ages 2 and under are FREE.

Inside: Find an adventure at Louisville Mega Caverns. You can go on a zip line tour, challenge yourself on an aerial ropes course, take a tour on the mega tram, or ride your bike on the underground bike park. Advance reservations are probably a good idea, although walk-ins are welcome on some of the attractions (but space is not guaranteed). Some of these attractions have height/weight restrictions so check those out before you go. Friday:
Outside: Head to the Louisville Zoo to see all the animals, play on the playgrounds, or take a spin on the carousel. The zoo hours are from 10am – 5pm (stay until 6pm). Boo at the Zoo runs on select nights-this week it will be from October 2nd-5th.

Inside: Go “do science” for fun learning over fall break at the Kentucky Science Center. Discover exhibits, play and/or watch a movie on their 4-Story Digital Theater. Hours are Daily from 9:30am – 5:00pm. Prices are located on their website and advanced tickets are strongly recommended. 727 West Main Street Louisville, KY 40202.
Saturday:
Outside: Go to the Louisville Nature Center and walk through the native wildflower gardens, seasonal butterflies and dragonflies in our gardens, view the indoor exhibits and mural, observe wildlife up-close in our bird blind, look at books and do activities in our library, or hike in Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve. 3745 Illinois Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky 40213
Inside: Check out video games at Recbar in Jeffersontown. Get your tokens and play pinball with the kids! It’s open daily, check the hours on their website. They also have a New Albany location.
Sunday:
Outside: St. James Court Art Fair – 2025 marks the 69th Annual St. James Court Art Show. The St. James Court Art Show is a juried fine arts and contemporary crafts show featuring over 600 artists from around the U.S. held among the country’s largest collection of Victorian homes in the heart of historic Old Louisville. Free admission, rain or shine, October 3-5th.
Inside: Go Roller skating at Champs Rollerdrome. Public session run from 7:00-10:00pm on Fri; 2-5pm, 7-10pm on Sat; and 2-5pm on Sun. Admission ranges from $11 – $12 (depending on session) with skate rental of $4. 9851 Lagrange Rd. Louisville, KY 40223
