Review: Mr. Magic Birthday Parties
This past weekend, I had the privilege of seeing “Mr. Magic” at a 5-year-old’s birthday party. Mr Magic, aka Jeff Russ, is a magician who specializes in children’s birthday parties in the Kentuckiana area. According to his website, he first started in magic when he was 13 years old, became a full-time Magician in 1994, and is now performing nearly 600 shows a year. He has even been voted as the Best of Louisville Children’s Entertainer. This past weekend, he came in, set up quickly, hid his rabbit while the kids weren’t looking, and started the show. When I heard him say it was a 45 minute show, I thought, “Oh no, my 2 year old and 5 year old will never make it!” Boy was I wrong! They were hooked from the moment he started talking, until the end of the show. I believe they would have stayed glued to their seats for another 45 minutes!
Mr. Magic was great at getting the kids involved, not getting upset or distracted when they got out of their seats, yelled, or acted like a mob of kids. He has a way of talking to the kids on their level, while still entertaining the adults in the room. He was interactive, funny, and had great magic tricks. The entire time he did his show, his wife “Mrs. Magic” was face painting at the back of the room. She painted the kids’ faces or arms while they watched the show. She did a tremendous job! I was amazed at the number of pictures she painted, the amount of detail she could add in little time, and the little extra touches like glitter that were on each design. The website states, “her cosmetic grade face paints are all FDA approved, hypoallergenic, water-based paints that meet or exceed the U.S. safety regulations and standards for Face Painters. The glitter used in all her creations is made from polyester and is completely harmless to the skin. All face painting art is removable with soap and water.”
At the end of the show, Mr. Magic invited the kids to become part of his free fan club where they will recieve a free magic fish and other items, gave them a picture to color, and some big money with magic tricks on the back. My 5 year old loved it and tried some of the tricks at home! All in all, it was a great show, and I’d recommend it for any party or school event!
