Christmas Express at Louisville Mega Cavern

Enjoy the magic of holiday lights during the day on the Christmas Express at Louisville Mega Cavern.

Christmas Express at Louisville Mega Cavern

The Louisville Mega Cavern has a new way to enjoy the Lights Under Louisville attraction. Along with a new route and several new displays, visitors can now go through the caverns on an open air tram ride. The daytime Christmas Express can easily be booked online or by calling the Louisville Mega Cavern.  The attraction includes a 30 minute ride to view over 3,000,000 points of light and 850 lit characters.  Also included is a toy for each child and a fun Winter Wonderland experience after the ride through the caverns.

At check-in, my children each received a light up wand toy that matched the attraction’s theme.  We had our own bench on the tram and the conductor took the time to take a group photo for everyone on the trip.  We went over a few rules and were on our way through the caverns. The engine of the SUV pulling us was hardly noticeable with all of the beautiful lights and loud holiday music.  With no car windows or roof to contend with, we were able to look all around us as we went through each themed area. The cavern walls were interesting to see up close as well.  The temperature in the caverns is a comfortable 50-60 degrees and we never felt too cold on the tram. We only wore our winter coats, but noticed others brought hats and gloves.

The tram tour takes you through the same holiday light displays as the self-driven tour, but the Christmas Express has ticket times during the day.  The daytime ticketed hours allow for families to not have to wait in the long lines in the evening. I appreciated that I was able to experience all of the lights without worrying about driving, going too fast or too slow.

At the end of the tour, each guest was invited to the Winter Wonderland.  Inside this small event space, we were greeted with Christmas lights, decorations, a train display, photo opp area and a treat.  Each guest was given a cookie and either regular or chocolate milk. The photo opp area had fun props and the Winter Wonderland helpers were happy to take a picture for us. Christmas Express at Louisville Mega Cavern

If you’re looking for a new and unique way to experience Lights Under Louisville, I recommend trying out the Christmas Express this year.  It was a real treat to be driven through the caverns, my children loved the light up wands and the special cookie and milk at the end. Tickets are $19.99 a person for ages 3 and up.  Daytime tours are available during the week and on the weekend and the times can be found on Louisville Mega Caverns’ website.
