Review of Forest Fest at Jefferson Memorial Forest by: Jeanette

PhotobucketIf you like being outdoors relaxing listening to bluegrass, then check out Forest Fest next May! We went for the first time this past weekend. You could tell we were first timers as we did not bring lawn chairs, blankets, or a cooler. Although the extra gear was not necessary, it would definitely make you more comfortable as opposed to sitting on the straw bales or picnic tables.  We arrived a few minutes early, paid our $5 to park and then headed over to the festival. Here there were several kid friendly activities from face painting, jumpy inflatable, nature crafts, and live turtle as well as some furs of the local wildlife.  There were also a few craft tables and a few eateries including bar-b-que and ice cream. The place where the audience sits had plenty of shaded spots as well as sunny spots. It was a pretty relaxed environment and a good way to enjoy the day before it got to hot for our little ones. Later on they were having a family scavenger hunt led by the local park services with prizes to give away. That sounds like it would be fun when my boys get a little older. It was not too crowded while we were there, but imagine it picked up in the afternoon since it was an all day event. Next year, however, we’ll come better prepared with a cooler of food and drinks and a blanket for the kids to play. Overall it was a gorgeous day to spend outside listening to some good bluegrass music. Highly recommend checking it out next year if you like bluegrass. $5/car is a good deal to spend an afternoon together with the family!
